Barbara Ann Corcoran
Barbara Ann Corcoran was a businesswoman, investor and speaker from the United States. She was the founder of The Corcoran Group, a real estate brokerage located in New York City, which she sold to NRT for $66 million in 2001. She shortly thereafter exited the company. Corcoran has participated in 12 episodes of ABC's Shark Tank seasons. In February of 2020, she had signed 53 deals. The most significant of these was a purchase of $350,000 to Coverplay at 40 percent. Corcoran was the second of a family of 10 children born to an Irish Catholic couple of working class in Edgewater, New Jersey. Her mother, Florence, was a homemaker. Edwin W. Corcoran Jr. her father was a multi-talented employee throughout Corcoran's childhood. Sometimes, her family depended on free food delivery from a local, friendly grocery store. Corcoran recalls her father as someone who would drink sometimes and treated her mother with disrespect. Corcoran struggled through her schooling, later learning that she had dyslexia. Corcoran started high school at St. Cecilia High School Englewood after having attended a Catholic primary school. After failing several courses in her first year, Corcoran transferred to Leonia High School in Leonia, where she was a D-student when she graduated.
